Standards
The effectiveness of your gift is guaranteed
Each
year, the charities must undergo a careful review by your fellow employees to
ensure compliance with the CFC’s high standards of financial accountability
and program effectiveness.
Each
local federation and approved agency listed has certified by federal employees
that it meets the following guidelines:
1.
That it provides substantial services in the Heartland area.
2.
That it is organized and registered for charitable purposes under all
applicable
3.
That it is exempt from taxation under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal
Revenue Code, and that it has held that exempt status for at least two years.
4.
That it has written policies of non-discrimination and that it complies
with all laws and regulations regarding non-discrimination and equal opportunity
with respect to clients, officers, employees and volunteers.
5.
That a
voluntary board of directors governs it that serves without compensation.
6.
That it
will not contribute funds collected from the CFC to any political advocacy
group.
7.
That it ensures promotional activities and printed materials are based
upon actual program operations and are truthful, non-deceptive, and include all
material facts relative to its cause.
8.
That it ensures that its publicity and promotional activities protect
against unauthorized use of contributor lists.
9.
That its administrative fund raising expenses are published and verified
off their IRS Form 990.
10.
That it has an oversight committee that monitors its participating
agencies. (federations only)
Each
applicant’s 501(c)(3) status will be verified with the IRS.
Applicants whose current 501(c)(3) status cannot be confirmed by the IRS
will be denied participation.
No
other charity campaign goes through this type of scrutiny.
You
can be sure that the CFC Catalog includes only charities worthy of your
generosity.
